Sadr Refuses Iraqi Envoys

Even the Shia tried.

Sadr must believe that he is in a win-win situation: get killed in the Imam Ali mosque, go to paradise, become a worthy martyr or watch the Americans and Iraqis leave him alone, Master of Najaf, Defender of the Holy Place.

Anyone care to guess odds for that Mosque coming down? I don't think any good will come if does fall. We'll get blamed no matter what happens there. If it falls, then it is because we instigated the violence, causing a Shia uprising the likes of which even Saddam never saw. Shia all over the world, including Iran (whose population was and possibly still is broadly pro-American according to Gallup), will join their Sunni brethren in Jihad.

Not good.

Oh, and cynically I wonder if Sadr wants to bring down the mosque knowing that the US will take the blame? It would be one helluva strategy to get moderate and undecided Shia off of their butts and fighting against the US and Allawi's government. Dangerous, but effective strategy. Sadr knows that they can build that mosque again -- but not before the Shia have unleashed hell.

Sadr has been abandoned, and the Shia will not come to his rescue. We need to tighten the noose, and then gas the place. Teargas, knockout gas, whatever does the job.

Of course, I could be wrong.
