New Republicans 2.0

We've changed the look, but not the message. Give us your feedback on the new header.

We're not your father's GOP (or maybe we are, but we dress better)...

I was wondering what the reason was to have an environmental backdrop. Are you implying that new Republicans will be pro all the left-wing environmentalist groups? I am just concerned that it might be interpeted the wrong way.

I don't want to be negative without offering a possible replacement. How about the backdrop of the New York Stock exchange - a symbol of the pro-business and pro-tax cut message that wins over independents and Republicans across the board. Thoughts?

In addition, I was wondering why you list the words "intelligent" and "internationalist" as two words describing the New Republicans. This could be interpeted as a slight on President Bush, that he is not worldly and didn't go into Iraq with a broad international coalition. In addition, the word intelligent implies that the other Republicans are some how not. These are distortions that Democrats use to attack Bush and the Republican party.

Shouldn't New Republicans be about defense/national security, tax cuts, pro-business, and anti-crime?

Thoughts?

Why? So we sound like every other Righty blog on the planet? Why don't we put a few more cliches in there too? Maybe an M1 Abrams and a picture of the Lord...

No.

The point of this site is that the GOP has lost a huge number of people in this country by focusing too much on philosophical issues about society (largely influenced by particular religious sects) and is in danger of being illogically defined as a party of rich white people. The end result of this misinterpretation and wrongheadness is a permanent opposition party.

We are strong on international issues without thinking that everyone in a foreign country is an idiot. We are broad minded about social affairs without having to acquiesce to every postmodern conceit offered. And we are intelligent about our presentation. We don't condemn "towel heads in the name of our lord and savior."

You can interpret these words or the picture as leftist or as slights against the President. For us, they are neither. They are the beginning of a new face for the party, one that is not cliched or dismissive of our roots.

We say NEW Republicans for a reason. We are not your father's GOP.

I am sorry to offend. You clearly feel very strongly about this.

However, your argument is dismissive of the heart and soul of the Republican party - the pro-Defense, pro-buisness, pro-tax cut Republican. They may be bland slogans, but they are who we are. It's also a winning message across the country.

I get the sense that you have had it with the religous right, and perhaps, are sick and tired of Democratic attacks on the Republican party being the party of rich white men or religious zealots with pitch forks.

I would offer that rather than change our party and concede to the Democrats critisism, perhpas Republicans should fight back with the truth. For example - being rich is not a dirty word, and secondly, the Democratic party is the party of the rich. Think of a wealthy neighborhood in this country (Park Avenue, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Malibu, the Hamptons etc.). These areas are the heart and soul of the Blue states, and the Democratic party. I wish someone would get up and say that for once.

Our party has a religous wing to it. So what. A large vocal wing of the Democratic party wants to take God out of the pledge of alliegance, and the dollar bill. They want to prevent anyone from mentioning God in school. They support partial-birth abortion. They even try and ban Santa Claus from parades. I don't wear my religion on my sleeve, but they go out of their way to impose their views on the majority of people. Unless you want them to win, you better stand up and say something.

Finally, the reason you may feel Republicans get a bad rap is that the major new media is left wing. Let's do something about that. We need more Republican newspapers and more Republican tv programs. The New York Times needs to clean house (fire Maureen Dowd and Paul Krugman for starters), and get back to being the paper of record. Dan Rather and Peter Jennings ought to be fired for violating their journalistic duty as well.

Academia is also firmly in the hands of the left, and they have done a wonderful job brainwashing an entire generation of young people into thinking Republicans are greedy rich white businessmen hell bent on destroying the environment.

The bottom line is Republicans need to get the message out, we have a good message, and we need a means to deliver it. Democrats have had control of the major media for years, they control academia, and they use both to make being a Republican a dirty word.

We don't need to change who we are as Republicans, we need to change how we say it, and how the message is translated through the filters of the media and academia.
