I'm not certain what to make of this guy. On the one hand, it is by no stretch of the imagination impossible for him to be working for the US government under some type of arms-length arrangement. But on the other hand, he should have access to a fixer of some sort if he is as well connected as he says he is.
His background leads me to think that he might have known people in the DoD who maybe told him that if he kept his head down and just focused on finding wanted suspects, then he would be allowed to operate. When he got out of hand, we [US gov't] had to do something about him.
But then again, he could just be a very good BS'er. Has anyone been following this story? What about the mercenaries picked up in Zimbabwe on the way to an alleged coup in Equitorial Guinea?
Reminds me to ask: after seeing Collateral last night, I wonder how many (if any) contract killers of that type actually exist. I know that in most countries you can find someone to kill for money -- but as professionally as Cruise portrays it? Doesn't seem even remotely true.
