Ikea Republicans

This blog is written by a self-proclaimed "30something, gay, African American, Republican minister living in Minneapolis, Minnesota." From a quick read of his site, I found it to be intelligent and balanced. Dennis Sanders seems to understand the party he has chosen, and especially the tension between it and his traditionally left-leaning demographic profile. As a believer in the GOP's core values of limited government and personal responsiblity, he is not willing to throw the baby out with the bath water on some of the side-line, hot-button issues. Check out the posting titled "More on Wal-Mart Republicans." I like the term Mr. Sander's coins here: "Ikea Republican." I think I qualify to associate myself with that title, although I have friends who truly embody it...

On the comments to that post, Dave says: "I think the Costco ideology is the future of the country, but I do not see any evidence that the Democratic Party is moving in this direction. Yes, they were under Clinton, but ever since then they've been moving back to the left, with leaders like Pelosi and Kerry. The GOP could capitalize on this and try and claim the center in future elections, but it's anyone's guess what will happen after the chips fall in November."

Just what we're saying.

Style at an affordable price...(metaphorically for the literalists among us)
