Terror in the Skies, Again?

If this article is real, then both parties have some explaining to do. 14 Syrians looking at each other, going to the bathroom in groups and seated in a random pattern throughout the aircraft when they were travelling as a group?

Also, what could a sky marshall have done against 14 men who went to the bathroom in turn, assembling one piece of a bomb at a time? Once the damn thing is assembled, pick a god and believe.

Terror in the Skies, Again?

My habitual skepticism hasn't died, and this women could have been making things up or exaggerating. But if (stress if) what she writes is true, then it is beyond my comprehension that no one stood up and questioned the men outright. I would have been shaking with fear and rage, but would have felt compelled to say something if no one else did. The fact that no one else said anything to them (or to the press) is the only reason for not revoking my skepticism.

But damn, Windrem, you're right about our cultural sensitivity in some cases. We don't want to haul every Middle-Eastern man off of airplanes for no reason, but clearly groups of people acting suspiciously should raise alarms.

Again, I hope that this story is fake. It would make me sleep better at night.

Just got through having an email argument with one of V's MPA friends.

It really, really disturbs me that in the name of being open-minded/anti-Bush, reasonable conclusions about what happened that day are flatly rejected.

Here is her last email

just goes to show it's all in the interpretation- the Times article
doesn't conclude that it was a dry run. but it does pt out that nothing
was amiss in the lavatory when it landed, the men were "clean" and did
indeed play there show. the fact is, this a non-story, one person's
interpretation of a situation- and it's only living on in certain blogs
and the email forwards of people with a certain agenda.

What!?

A non story?!

The FBI came. TSA. Police. Passengers and pilots were equally scared.

Nothing happened?!

The statistical probablity of seven companions travelling together needing to pee at the same time is highly unlikely.

It's almost disgusting to not be suspicious. Echoes of Germany 1939: willful ignorance in face of facts.

What would the left say when the next plane goes down? The Bush administration didn't do enought to protect the public.

How can you prtoect people, when you disbelieve the most Occam-esque explanation and don't allow suspicious people to be held without charges?

What would Kerry have done differently? Apologize for making the foreigners feel tense in America? Really? It is difficult to imagine that either candidate can afford to let incidents like this happen. The stakes are too high.

I'm not paranoid or going into a police-state mentality -- in fact, this is the first instance in which such powers seem to be called for -- but our system did not get to bottom of this incident, it seems.

I hope that CIA has bugged and traced the movements of those guys back in Syria to find out when Operation Jihad II launches.
