Pakistan: President Calls For Provision Of Quick, Inexpensive Justice To All

President Pervez Musharraf is tackling one of the great obstacles to economic prosperity in the Third World: corrupt and/or inefficient legal systems. A Pakistani friend of mine once said that a credit card receipt in the United States carries more legal weight than a deed to property in Pakistan. This gets to the heart of Hernando de Soto's theory in his book "The Mystery of Capital." The systems exist, they are just not legitimized via a working judiciary.
