9-11 panel fuels turf war

9-11 panel fuels turf war=The Hill.com=

This is a story near and dear to my heart. In a nutshell, various Committee chairman oppose the creation of a permanent House Committee on Homeland Security. The way I see it, the Department of Homeland Security is a huge agency and it should have a centralized legislative oversight body. Defense has one, State has one, Interior has one, etc. It's true that many of these other committee's have expertise in areas covered by the current Homeland Security Committee. The idea, however, is provide an efficient link between the new department and Congress. Having the Department report to five different committee's seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Heck, it's hard enough to get anything done when departments report to a single legislative entity.
