Schwarzenegger for President?

On September 15, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) offered an amendment to the Constitution allowing naturalized citizens to serve as President of the United States. Rep. Rohrabacher has been outspoken against illegal immigration, but says this amendment is "fully consistent with my long-held support for a generous policy of legal immigration..."

To his opponents who might doubt the Congressman's motives, considering GOP celebrity and Austrian immigrant Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's naturalized status, Rep. Rohrabacher had this to say:

"There are those here today who will interpret this constitutional proposal permitting a naturalized citizen to serve as President as a political ploy designed to permit a prominent California elected official who immigrated to the United States from Central Europe and who still speaks with a thick accent to be eligible to be elected President of the United States.

This is no ploy. I honestly believe that Tom Lantos
[Hungarian born California Democratic Congressman] should be allowed to seek the highest office in the land just like any other elected official from California."

Congressman Rohrabacher is a surfer from California and an advocate for human rights around the world. His motto: "Fighting for freedom and having fun."
