How 'bout this?
WHO GIVES A SHIT what the world wants to say regarding OUR ELECTION!!! If they really want to speak up then vote. . . or in the case of those countries on the list that do not have free elections: rebel.
How d'ya like them apples?
There's something else at work here, too. The overwhelming belief of people across the world that Bush is criminal or simply stupid. It is our job to explain why Bush is a better choice than Kerry -- and to explain how differntly the story about Iraq, 9/11 and terrorism is carried across the world. In many places not directly affected by Islamic insurgency (though on the terrorists' hitlist, no doubt, of future members of the Ummah Club), our actions post 9/11 are unmitigated disasters. I'm not defending the critics, just noting that we can do better about explaining ourselves. And, should we not wish to do that, then at least stare with clear, open eyes into a world that doesn't understand us. Never mistake sympathy for understanding, by the way.
Oh, and don't forget another thing: the Soviet Union fell, but it left behind a leftism that is far more international than most rightist ideologies whose love of country makes them typically covetous of their way of live over and above other ways in other lands. These movements may not be coordinated, but they share broadly similar goals about peace, social welfare and the like that are largely unchallenged by legitimate political groups in an organized way. Such is the difficulty of most conservatisms.
