Iraq's Sunnis reejct the constitution, eh?
The Sunni negotiators subsequently issued a joint statement rejecting the draft and asking the United Nations and Arab League to intervene.
By ignoring, in the end, the objections of the country's former Sunni elite, Iraq could face a further spike in the violent insurgency. That insurgency draws fighters from the now-disaffected Sunni minority that lost power with Saddam Hussein's ouster.
How about a trade? U.S. support for the Sunni position (i.e. a unitary state) for an end to the insurgency?
